The Gonstead Technique is a highly-precise, evidence-based chiropractic method that focuses on the diagnosis and correction of vertebral subluxation. The technique was developed by Dr. Clarence S. Gonstead in 1923 and has since become one of the most popular chiropractic methods worldwide. It is based on detailed analysis of spinal biomechanics to identify misalignments in the spine, called subluxations, which can cause nerve interference and lead to pain or dysfunction throughout the body. By using gentle adjustments to correct these misalignments, it helps restore healthy movement and function to the entire body system without medication or surgery.
The technique involves a thorough examination of the patient, including a detailed case history, physical examination, and X-rays to identify the specific subluxations present. then uses a variety of adjusting techniques, such as the Gonstead adjustment, to correct these subluxations. This is done by applying a precise and specific force to the affected spinal segment, using the hands or specialized adjusting instruments

What’s The Difference Between Gonstead Technique & Other Techniques?
The Gonstead Technique is more than just a “quick fix”, this technique focuses on the body’s structural foundation and intervertebral discs. The Gonstead technique goes much further than other traditional methods. This in-depth method of chiropractic care considers all elements of a patient’s health before a single adjustment is given. The information given from the technique lets the chiropractor know of the exact spots that are needed to have correct adjustments to the subluxations throughout the spine.
Key Components of the Gonstead Technique
X-Rays
Allows chiropractors to use the Gonstead technique to evaluate the spinal structure including posture, possible fractures, misalignments and joints. These X-rays let the chiropractor consider all elements of the patient’s spinal health.
Palpation
Static palpation is used when the doctor is checking the spine in a stationary position for any swelling, tenderness or tightness in the muscles. Motion palpation is used when the doctor is feeling the patient’s spine while the patient moves in various directions.
Instrumentation
Using a dual probe instrument the chiropractor is able to detect any type of inflammation or nerve pressure up and down the spine.
Visualization
This component of the Gonstead technique is used the second the patient walks into the door. The chiropractor is able to detect spinal misalignments by observing the body’s movement.
Case Management
Being able to understand the issues with the patient’s spine helps chiropractors determine the area that needs to be adjusted. We apply all the knowledge from the above components and determine the cause of the problem, which will aid us in applying the correct spinal adjustments.

Everyone here is incredibly kind and well-trained. The doctor is one of the best people I've ever met. He has extensive knowledge of his work and is always attentive to his patients. I've improved significantly in the short time I've been here. Thank you to the entire team for your excellent work.
I have been seeing Dr. Austin for 2 years now. Not only is he simply amazing at what he does, he does it with such a friendly, caring bedside manner. I cannot put into words how thankful I am for him, the services he offers and his amazing team!
I used to suffer from chronic bilateral numbness and tingling, in my arms, 90% of the day; all day, every day. Now, I rarely have issues; when I do, Austin works me in ASAP to correct the problem.
I have suffered from migraines my entire life; until I began regularly seeing Austin, they were so severe I had to give myself injections at home. Now, I hardly ever get them. When I do feel one coming on, I get right in for dry needling, it makes all the difference. I haven't had a migraine shot in 20 months!
I also have 2 student athletes who see him as well. As the parent, of an injured kiddo, if it's at all possible, there's nothing you want more that non operative options. My son (now playing baseball in college) suffered a tear in his rotator cuff his Jr. year of high school; after 6 weeks of soft wave therapy from Dr. Austin, the Sports Medicine/Orthopedic surgeon, cleared him to start pitching.
Dr. Austin spends the time needed to figure out the source of your pain/issue and set's up a treatment plan, utilizing the different therapies he offers.
Don't let the thought of cost talk you out of contacting him. They accept insurance, when insurance allows. They also have discounts and packages; they may even do a payment plan, if that's the only thing stopping you.
Dr. Austin truly cares about helping you heal.
The staff was amazing very welcoming and listen to your needs the front desk employee Raquel was phenomenal. I would recommend this place to anybody that needs help with wherever you’re having pain because they definitely know what they’re doing and they talk you through what they will be doing how they’re gonna be doing it and when it is done, they keep you engaged with your session.
I've been in the care of Dr. Clarke and his team for nearly three years as of this writing, and every experience is fantastic. Welcoming and friendly reception staff, knowledgeable doc, competitive pricing, and I always leave feeling better, physically and mentally.
Highly recommended, from adjustments, to dry needling, traction, and more. My aching, aging body always appreciates a visit to Colorado Injury & Wellness.
Your chiropractor isn’t even close to how good Dr. Clarke and his team are. I went in with a bulging disc between my L5 and S1 vertebrae and after 3 visits it is noticeably, no no no, insanely better. Decompression, softwave, and manipulation therapy is all used here but only if it’s necessary to treat what you have going on. If you need routine maintenance, you can do that here. If you have nerve damage and no one seems to be able to help, I bet they can with the software. If you have herniated discs or bulging discs or just need decompression work in general I know they can handle that here. Highly recommend to everyone!
I can’t recommend this chiropractic office enough! Since starting treatment, I’ve noticed a huge improvement in my overall health and quality of life. Before coming here, standing and walking for long periods was a constant struggle because of my back pain. Thanks to their personalized treatment plan, I’m finally getting my mobility back.
The combination of spinal decompression, SoftWave therapy, and chiropractic adjustments has made an incredible difference. My pain has decreased significantly, I’m standing straighter, walking with much less discomfort, and I feel stronger overall. Dr. Austin Clarke and his staff members Raquel, Kenia, and Emery genuinely care about their patients and takes the time to explain every step of the process and make sure you’re comfortable during your time there. I wish I came here sooner!!!
Dr. Austin is very personable and is great at explaining what is going on with your anatomy. His regular adjustments keep me balanced and in good health. He is a good listener and can adjust the treatments to meet your needs.
I am so grateful for the exceptional care which has been given by Dr.Austin and each of his staff. The Softwave treatment has made such a huge difference in my ability to function daily. The first 24 hours after my initial treatment, I felt tremendous relief from the intense pain I had been dealing with in my knee. I noticed the pain from inflamation was reduced significantly within the first 2 hours of the initial treatment. I now have more energy to do the things I haven't been able to do in quite awhile. Dr. Austin takes the time to answer any questions which really helped me to feel at ease. He is genuine and very personable. He also has a heart for wanting to help his patients, along with his caring staff who assist with smiles all day long. Thank you for helping to make my days feel lighter and much easier to manage.
